The 2002 SBC Cotton Bowl has the distinction of having the earliest start time in Cotton Bowl history. The 10:10 a.m. start beat the previous mark of 10:12 a.m. for the 2001 game.
The University of Arkansas is 4-11 in bowl games and 4-3 in the 2001 season when the opponent scores first.
The nine sacks against the Razorbacks tied the SBC Cotton Bowl record for most sacks. The University of Miami also had nine against the University of Texas in 1991. The nine sacks allowed are also a season-high for Arkansas. The previous high was seven by Alabama on Sept. 22. The last time Arkansas allowed nine sacks in a game was in 1990 against SMU.
The 50 total yards of offense by the Hogs was the third-fewest in Cotton Bowl history. It is the fewest since 1997 when Kansas State had 41 total yards against BYU.
By holding the Hogs scoreless in the first half, the Sooners were only the second team to do so during the 2001 season. Arkansas managed to overcome being shutout by UNLV in the first half on Aug. 30 to win 14-10.
The three points scored by the Razorbacks ties the school record for second-fewest points in a bowl game. Arkansas played to a 0-0 tie against LSU in the 1947 Cotton Bowl, had a 10-3 loss to Alabama in the 1962 Sugar Bowl, and recorded a 17-3 loss to UCLA in the 1989 Cotton Bowl. It is also their fewest points in a game since a 34-3 loss to Florida in the 1995 SEC Championship game.
The 10 points scored by Oklahoma is the second-fewest points allowed by Arkansas in their last 15 bowl appearances, going back to 1980. The fewest over that time period was six by the University of Texas in a 27-6 Arkansas win in the 2000 Cotton Bowl.
The two pass completions for Arkansas was its fewest since the 1991 season when they went 0 for 3 against Texas A&M. The 13 yards passing for Arkansas is also the fewest since the A&M game.
