The AT&T Cotton Bowl announced today that the 76th Classic scheduled for Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 at Cowboys Stadium is officially sold out. This marks the quickest sellout in the history of the Classic.

The 2012 Classic will be played in primetime for the second consecutive year and the second time in the 76-year history of the game and will be nationally televised on FOX. The teams will be announced on Sunday, Dec. 4.

“We owe a big ‘thank you’ to our ticket holders and partners,” Tommy Bain, Chairman of the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic said. “I’m not sure there’s another bowl game in America that can claim to be sold out by the opening weekend of college football.”

The matchup between the Big 12 and Southeastern Conference has generated sellouts nine of the past 10 years. The 2012 AT&T Cotton Bowl will make the third year the Classic has been played in Cowboys Stadium, with the first two generating two of the top three largest crowds in AT&T Cotton Bowl history. Last year’s matchup between Texas A&M and LSU was played in front of 83,514, making it the second biggest crowd ever behind the 2009 Classic.
