SCOVELL SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED

The Field & Mary Scovell Scholarship Foundation announced that grants awarded this spring will go up in value from $3,000 to $4,000. In honor of the announcement, the Scovell Foundation has extended the deadline to submit scholarship applications to Friday, Feb. 17th. The previous deadline was February 3rd.

“The Scovell Foundation has tremendous support from so many people that have a passion for education and developing young leaders from our community,” Jack B. Prince, President of the Scovell Scholarship Foundation said. “It’s because of their support that we were able to raise the value of each one of our 15 grants and know that despite a down economy, we can do more to help young people in North Texas.”

Applications for 2012 Scovell Scholarship Foundation grants are available online at www.scovellscholarships.com. Applications can also we accessed via the Scovell Foundation link on the AT&T Cotton Bowl website (www.attcottonbowl.com).

Ten of the 15 scholarships will be awarded to North Texas graduating high school seniors who continue their higher education in the state of Texas (including community colleges) or at a Big 12 Conference or Southeastern Conference university -- the two conferences associated with the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic. The five remaining scholarships will be reserved for previous Scovell Scholarship winners currently enrolled in college.

All applications should be sent via mail to the Scovell Scholarship Foundation at One Legends Way, Arlington, TX 76011. Recipients will be notified in March and will be honored at a reception at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on May 21st

The Scovell Scholarship Foundation honors the legacy of Field Scovell, known as “Mr. Cotton Bowl,” for his longtime service as team selection chairman for the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association, and his wife of nearly 50 years, Mary.  The Foundation has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to local students.
